Sometimes it is interesting to review our surveying activities at the end of each year, to give an indication of the areas which hull and machinery insurers are most interested in. During 2016 we visited 27 shipping or ship management companies in connection with loss prevention. Ferries were the vessels which were most often surveyed, with a total of 40 for the year. Those vessels which fall into the general cargo category came second with 38, followed by 23 tugs, 14 fishing vessels, 8 dredgers, 5 livestock carriers, 4 passenger ships, 4 tankers, 2 bulk carriers and a reefer. We carried out 8 casualty surveys, 4 pre purchase surveys, 3 shipyard surveys and a survey of one power station. Let’s hope 2017 provides a similar level of work.
